Barangay Medicine

Medicine that the Health Center of Barangay Matinik mostly provides to their resident.

Paracetamol

Paracetamol is a commonly used medicine that can help treat pain and reduce a high temperature (fever). It's typically used to relieve mild or moderate pain, such as headaches, toothache or sprains, and reduce fevers caused by illnesses such as colds and flu.​

​

  1. Adults can usually take 1 or 2 tablets (500mg) every 4-6 hours, but shouldn't take more than 4g (8 x 500mg tablets) in the space of 24 hours.

  2. Children under 16 need to take a lower dose, depending on their age or weight – check the packet or leaflet, or ask a pharmacist or doctor for advice.

Mefenamic Acid

Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat mild to moderate pain. It may also be used to treat menstrual cramps and other conditions as determined by your doctor.

​

Mefenamic acid comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken with food every 6 hours as needed for up to 1 week. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take mefenamic acid exactly as directed.

Losartan

Losartan: a medicine to treat high blood pressure - NHS.

​

Take losartan tablets once a day. Your doctor may suggest that you take your first dose before bedtime, because it can make you feel dizzy. After your first dose, you can take losartan at any time of day.

Amoxicillin Capsule

It is used to treat bacterial infections, such as chest infections (including pneumonia) and dental abscesses.

​

​You can take amoxicillin before or after food. Swallow amoxicillin capsules whole with a drink of water. Do not chew or break them.

Cotrimoxazole

Co-trimoxazole is used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as pneumonia (a lung infection), bronchitis (infection of the tubes leading to the lungs), and infections of the urinary tract, ears, and intestines. It also is used to treat 'travelers' diarrhea.

​

Co-trimoxazole comes as a tablet and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It usually is taken two times a day but may be taken up to four times a day when used to treat certain severe lung infections.

Anlodepine

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). If you have high blood pressure, taking amlodipine can help to prevent future heart disease, heart attacks and strokes. It is also used to prevent chest pain caused by heart disease (angina).

​

You'll usually take amlodipine once a day. You can take it at any time of day, but try to make sure it's around the same time every day. You can take amlodipine tablets and liquid with or without food. Swallow amlodipine tablets whole and have a drink of water with both the tablets and the liquid.

Amoxicilin Drop

AMOXICILLIN (a mox i SIL in) treats infections caused by bacteria. It belongs to a group of medications called penicillin antibiotics.

​

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. You may add the measured dose to formula, milk, juice, water, or ginger ale just before use. Drink all of the mixture to get the full dose.

Salbutamol Drop

Salbutamol is used to rapidly treat asthma, bronchospasm and reversible airways obstruction by widening the airways of the lungs.

Salbutamol Tablet

Salbutamol is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as coughing, wheezing and feeling breathless.

​

​The usual effective dose is 4mg three or four times per day. If adequate bronchodilation is not obtained each single dose may be gradually increased to as much as 8mg. However, it has been established that some patients obtain adequate relief with 2mg three or four times daily.

Amoxicillin Syrup

The usual dose is 20 to 40 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight per day, divided and given every 8 hours, or 25 to 45 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided and given every 12 hours.

Salbutamol Syrup

Shake the bottle before use. An oral syringe may be used to measure doses less than 5ml. The usual adult dose is (4mg) two 5 ml spoonfuls (10ml), 3 or 4 times per day which may be increased to a maximum of (8mg) four 5 ml spoonfuls (20ml), 3 or 4 times per day.

Cloxacillin

Cloxacillin is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This medication is a type of penicillin antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

​

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor. This medication is best absorbed when taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). If you are using the liquid suspension form of this medicine, shake the bottle well before each dose.

Dicycloverine

Dicycloverine hydrochloride Tablets work by relaxing the muscles in your stomach and gut (intestine). It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms). In doing this, it relieves cramps, pain, bloating, wind and discomfort.

​

The usual adult dose of dicycloverine is one 10 mg tablet, or one 5 ml spoonful of liquid medicine, three times a day. If dicycloverine has been prescribed for you by a doctor, your dose may be different to this, in which case take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water.

Lagundi Syrup

Formulated under the National Integrated Research Program on Medicinal Plants (NIRPROMP), the FDA-approved Lagundi product has long been used for cough and asthma relief. Lagundi is also included in the homecare kit for mild COVID-19 patients of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

​

The 300mg syrup may be taken thrice daily by children, following the suggested dosage per intake: 2.5 to 5mL for ages 2 to 4, 5mL for ages 4 to 6, and 7.5 to 10mL for ages 6 to 12.

Vitamin B Complex

B vitamins play a vital role in maintaining good health and well-being. As the building blocks of a healthy body, B vitamins have a direct impact on your energy levels, brain function, and cell metabolism. Vitamin B complex may help prevent infections and help support or promote: cell health.

​

Take Vitamin B complex orally and once a day. Take your Vitamin B complex with a full glass of water.

Ambroxol Syrup

This drug is used for the symptomatic treatment of tracheobronchitis, an infection that induces tracheal (windpipe) and pulmonary airway inflammation. Ambroxol in this case relieves the patient from an excessive cough and thick sputum.

​

Syrup 15 mg/5 mL: Adults and children over 12 years: 10 mL (2 tsps.) 3 times daily. Children 6 - 12 years: 5 mL (1 tsp.) 2 - 3 times daily.

Lagundi Capsule

Teens aged 12 and older may also take the 600 mg tablet thrice a day.

MultiVitamins

The main purpose of a multivitamin is to fill in nutritional gaps, and provides only a hint of the vast array of healthful nutrients and chemicals naturally found in food. It cannot offer fiber or the flavor and enjoyment of foods so key to an optimal diet.

​

Take Multivitamins orally and once a day. Take your multivitamin with a full glass of water.

Cetirizine

Cetirizine is an antihistamine medicine that helps the symptoms of allergies. It's used to treat: hay fever. conjunctivitis (red, itchy eye)

​

Cetirizine can be taken at any time of the day. In most people it is non-sedating, so they take it in the morning. However, a percentage of people do find it to be sedating so if it does make you drowsy it is best to take it in the evening. Cetirizine can be taken with or without food.

Ferrous Sulfate with Folic Acid

The ferrous sulfate plus folic acid can improve the response on hemoglobin levels. The folic acid supplementation with ferrous sulfate have effect on the linear and weight growth of anemic and non-anemic.

​

Take ferrous sulfate and folic acid on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Avoid taking antacids or antibiotics within 2 hours before or after taking ferrous sulfate and folic acid.

Cinnarizine

Cinnarizine: antihistamine used for travel sickness and vertigo - NHS.

​

Adults and children aged 12 years or older – take 2 tablets 2 hours before travel, then 1 tablet every 8 hours during the journey if needed. Children aged 5 to 11 years – give 1 tablet 2 hours before travel, then half a tablet every 8 hours during the journey if needed.
